The Commission Process

Love, 22" by 28" x 0.75 oil on canvas

Hi!

I’m very happy that you’re thinking about commissioning a painting! Here’s a brief explanation of how my process works.

First, we’ll talk about your idea. I’ll ask a number of questions so I can clearly understand what you’re envisioning for the piece.

Before moving forward, we’ll go over the price and the estimated timeline. A 50% deposit is required at the beginning, and the remaining balance is due once the painting is completed.

Framing is not included in the base price, but we can discuss framing options as an additional service if you’d like.

Next, I’ll prepare a few initial sketches, usually three, to explore possible directions. I’ll send them to you by email, and you can let me know whether I’m heading in the right direction. If there are elements you like and others you’d prefer to change, you can share that feedback. This stage may involve a few revisions.

Once we finalize the sketch concept, I’ll create a couple of color studies for you to review. These will also be sent by email.

After receiving your feedback and selecting the final color study, I’ll begin painting.

During the painting process, I’ll send two progress photos so you can see how the work is developing. When the painting is finished, I’ll email you a final image for approval.

Afterward, the painting will need time to cure, and then we can arrange shipping or delivery if you’re local.

Thank you for taking the time to read about my commission process. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, I’d be happy to help!
